Debian comes with tons of fonts for all kinds of purposes,
you can easily list them (almost) all with: apt-cache search ^fonts-
.
However, sometimes they are not in their latest version, or as a user you would like to get access to new fonts that are not present in Debian stable yet.
With the tool fnt
you can easily preview, and install
fonts from Debian sid and Google Web Fonts (that's about 2,000 fonts that are DSFG compliant).
Any user can use the tool to install fonts only for the user itself, or the
system administrator can run it as root to install the fonts system wide.
The package fnt
is already in Bookworm,
so if you run Debian testing you can use it to get, test and use many fonts that are in their way
of being packaged in Debian:
ITP #973779 fnt install scheherazadenew
RFP #944140 fnt install arsenal
RFP #757249 fnt install ekmukta
RFP #724629 fnt install firasans
RFP #766211 fnt install orbitron
RFP #803690 fnt install pompiere
RFP #754784 fnt install raleway
RFP #827735 fnt install reemkufi
RFP #986999 fnt install redhat{display,mono,text}

Translations: fr pt-BR
The theme "Homeworld" by Juliette Taka has been selected as default theme for Debian 11 'bullseye'. Juliette says that this theme has been inspired by the Bauhaus movement, an art style born in Germany in the 20th century.
After the Debian Desktop Team made the call for proposing themes, a total of eighteen choices have been submitted. The desktop artwork poll was open to the public, and we received 5,613 responses ranking the different choices, of which Homeworld has been ranked as the winner among them.
This is the third time that a submission by Juliette has won. Juliette is also the author of the lines theme that was used in Debian 8 and the softWaves theme that was used in Debian 9.
We'd like to thank all the designers that have participated and have submitted their excellent work in the form of wallpapers and artwork for Debian 11.
Congratulations, Juliette, and thank you very much for your contribution to Debian!

Above you can see a nice composition with examples of several fonts. The composition is published under the MIT (Expat) license and the source SVG (created with Inkscape) can be downloaded here. You will need the fonts to be installed in your system so the SVG is correctly rendered.

Debian Artwork: Call for Proposals for Debian 10 (Buster)
On Sun 17 June 2018 with tags artwork buster cfp debianWritten by Jonathan Carter
Translations: fr
This is the official call for artwork proposals for the Buster cycle.
For the most up to date details, please refer to the wiki.
We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Juliette Taka Belin for doing the Softwaves theme for stretch.
The deadlines for submissions is: 2018-09-05
The artwork is usually picked based on which themes look the most:
- ''Debian'': admittedly not the most defined concept, since everyone has their own take on what Debian means to them.
- ''plausible to integrate without patching core software'': as much as we love some of the insanely hot looking themes, some would require heavy GTK+ theming and patching GDM/GNOME.
- ''clean / well designed'': without becoming something that gets annoying to look at a year down the road. Examples of good themes include Joy, Lines and Softwaves.
If you'd like more information, please use the Debian Desktop mailing list.
